In many games there is whats called a guild master. A guild is an assembly of people who work together against other guilds to ensure success in a large group. The guild master or "GM" is the person who created and runs the guild.
I have experience doing so in a variety of different games. It has its ups and downs. The ups are great only your must go through a lot of downs to achive them. For starters everyone wants a higher rank in the guild. Sometimes this can involve hurting feelings. A lot of the time you also have to kick people who are harming the guild.
